*As of April 2023 major improvements have been made to the road/bridge to Abaca and it is now accessible by any vehicle*
Located approximately 30 minutes and 15 km from Lautoka City, Abaca (Am-ba-tha) village, the "base camp" for Koroyanitu Heritage Park, is relatively accessible. However, due to the rough and tumble conditions of the access road to the village, we recommend renting/hiring a car that has Four-wheel drive or calling our office to arrange a trusted taxi/driver service for transportation to the park. There are 4WD services that will provide transport from both Lautoka and the Nadi/Denarau area. During the dry season of April-September, all taxis will drive to Abaca, but to ensure that you get here safely, especially during the more rainy season, we recommend that you call us to help arrange transport or go with a 4WD service.
Trusted Transport Partners
While transport can be arranged with many hotel desks and most taxi drivers, we have several partners who have worked with us for many years that we want to recommend as they give a reasonable fare and are extremely dependable.

Arriving to the Park
Once you get to the access road shown on the map below, it will be about a 20-minute drive to Abaca up the mountain. There will sometimes be farmers bringing their horses and cattle up and down the road, so please be aware during the drive. Once you reach Abaca, you will see a small blue building on your right, which is the Visitor Center. There, one of our park staff should be either in the office or nearby and can assist you with payment collection and any other questions you may have about the park or village. The main hike to Mt. Batilamu is available on the AllTrails app, and there is some signage that will guide you to certain waterfalls and swimming holes along the way. The main hike takes approximately 4 hours to complete on its own as an out-and-back for most hikers, and the waterfall takes approximately two hours. To see more of the Park and understand its history, we recommend hiring a professional guide who can take you up the mountain and to several of our stunning waterfalls.

Above is a park map showing several attractions in the waterfall area of the park. When trekking the waterfall area, we recommend hiring a guide who can explain the history and some of the park's wildlife, but you are free to trek on your own as well!
